Connections

November 21, 2024 – June 22, 2025

Royal Alberta Museum

CONNECTIONS is a collection of artworks and scientific images that portrays aspects of neuroscience, brain diseases and mental health disorders, and their intersections with art and life.

In this exhibition you’ll discover the beautiful linkages that exist among our brain cells; weave together the threads of neuroscience research, clinical care, and recovery from brain diseases and mental health disorders; immerse yourself in the inspiring, healing power of art; and highlight the humanity in our connections.

You can find Zoë in the section exploring what being a little more or a little less than who you think you are might look like; Broken Threads. Learn More.

Artist. Art Therapist. Advocate for Inclusion.

Welcome! I’m delighted to have you here. I’m Dr. Zoë Armstrong, and my mission is to foster inclusion through my work as an artist, art therapist, and advocate. As someone who is neurodiverse, I am passionate about creating spaces where everyone feels valued and understood.

My work blends art, art therapy and advocacy efforts all towards promoting a more inclusive world. I’m excited to share this journey with you and explore how we can make a difference together.

My work is dedicated to raising awareness and boosting inclusivity for neurodiversity. As a neurodiverse individual diagnosed later in life, I once saw my differences as barriers. Now, I embrace them as my greatest strengths.

My journey has led me to become one of the voices contributing to the important field of Art Therapy in North America. Through my work, I’ve witnessed art’s profound healing power. It can transform lives and amplify voices that often go unheard.

I’m committed to using my art and voice to redefine what inclusivity can look like in our institutions, communities and homes.

Art making has always been my innate way of expressing myself and communicating with others. I simply cannot, not make art.
